Kennedy Yanko

I had to fight for the intro to this piece, because on the surface it read slow. However, accompanied with the tracking shots and ethos of Yanko’s work it’s a stunning introduction to the expansive works.

It was important to me to show the physicality of her work. That meant visiting Yanko’s studio multiple times to understand the intricacies of her routine. I enforced that the crew act like flies on the wall in order to capture the most detailed movements of the artist.

”We literally saw one piece and it was so moving..you felt.. you know, being able to take ordinary, ugly objects and make them beautiful. And you felt something you never see the ability to make a gigantic sculptor.” - Don Rubell
